Obituary

LOWELL—Thomas F. Murphy, 90 years old, died Sunday morning, December 12th, at the Wentworth Skilled Care Center, after a brief illness. He was the husband of the late M. Madeline (Conway) Murphy, who died in 1999.

He was born in Lowell, on February 8, 1914, a son of the late J. Joseph and Mary Ellen (Cassidy) Murphy.

Mr. Murphy had been employed at the Lowell Gas Company for over 35 years, retiring as a Vice President. He was an avid golfer and outdoorsman. He held membership in the Long Meadow Golf Club, the Lowell Sportsmen’s Club, and was a longtime spectator at the Lowell Golden Gloves.

Surviving him are two daughters and three sons-in-law: Brenda J. and James Dearborn, of Laconia, NH; Elaine F. and Raymond Sarosy, of Exeter, NH; and Edmund “Dennis” Murphy, of Lowell; six grandchildren: Brenda Stewart; Dana Sarosy-Horr; Karen Jordan; Lynne Hegner; Lauren Akashian; and Niall Murphy; two great-grandchildren: Willa Porter Stewart and Elaine Winslow Stewart; a brother: Joseph Murphy, of Biddeford, ME; two sisters: Eileen Malsch, and her husband Kenneth, of Newtown, CT; and Marion Oreo, of Newburyport; also many nieces and nephews.

He was the father of the late Norma L. Murphy, who died in April of 2001.

Friends may call from 4 until 8 PM on Tuesday, December 14th, at the MAHONEY FUNERAL HOME, 187 Nesmith Street, (Rte. 38). His Funeral Mass will be offered Wednesday, December 15th, at 11 AM at ST. FRANCIS CHURCH, Wheeler Road, Dracut. Burial in St. Patrick Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Norma L.
