FRAMINGHAM - Mary Helen (Balli) Verdy, age 84, died at her Framingham home on Wednesday morning, November 19, 2014, surrounded by her loving family, following a long battle with Alzheimer’s Disease. She was the beloved wife of Elias T. “Lou” Verdy for 62 years.
Born in Newton, daughter of the late Kosta and Olga (Velo) Balli, Helen was raised in Newton Highlands and was a graduate of Newton High School. She and Lou were married in 1952 and settled in Framingham.
Helen valued family above all else and caring for others came naturally to her. She enjoyed summers spent among her large extended family at their cottage in Marshfield, and had travelled extensively throughout the United States, Europe and the Caribbean. A member of Vetetima, her church’s women’s club, Helen volunteered countless hours at bake sales, church bazaars and annual picnics.
She is survived by Lou; their loving daughters, Karen Kisty and husband Jeffrey of Marlborough, and Lynne Redonnet and husband David of Medway; devoted son, Brian Verdy of Millis; cherished grandchildren, Evan and Eleni Kisty; her dear sisters, Julia Vishnja, Phyllis Matto, Sally Yphantes and husband George, and Carol Kauzens and husband Zigmunds, and sisters-in-law, Mary Verdy and Antonetta Ekonomy; and many nieces and nephews.
Helen’s funeral will be held in the Annunciation Orthodox Church, 37 Washington Street, Natick, on Monday, Nov. 24th at 10:30AM. Visiting hours will be at the John Everett & Sons Funeral Home, 4 Park Street at Natick Common, on Sunday, Nov. 23rd, 2 – 5PM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Interment at Dell Park Cemetery.
