Robert H. Kitson, 82, of Blackinton Drive died Monday, November 17, 2014 in the comfort of his home, surrounded by his loving and devoted family. He was the husband of Deborah E. (Nevin) Kitson. Mr. and Mrs. Kitson celebrated their 57th wedding anniversary in February.
Born in Cranston, he was a son of the late John F. and Dorothy R. (Girard) Kitson, he had lived in Glocester for the past 42 years.
Mr. Kitson was an Army veteran of the Korean War. He was the owner of Christy’s Liquors, Inc. in Glocester until his retirement in 1997. He was the former co-owner of Christy’s Liquors Rt. 44 Chepachet and former owner of Christy’s Liquors in Cranston. Earlier in his career, Mr. Kitson was General Manager of the Cott Bottling Co. of RI, President and General Manager of the Cott Bottling Co. of New Jersey and General Manager of the Cliquot Club Bottling Co. in Millis, MA.
He was an associate member of the RI Police Chiefs’ Association, Kent County High Sheriffs’ Association and a member of the 100 Club of RI. He was a member of the Glocester Sr. Center and former member of the Glocester Business Association. He took great interest in genealogy and family history, compiling volumes of research and antiques for present and future generations of the Kitson family. He enjoyed collecting antiques, traveling to Bermuda and the Caribbean Islands, vacationing with his family, fishing with his sons, stock car racing events and the NE Patriots.
Mr. Kitson is also survived by his children, Robert and his wife Claudia of Greene, Kevin and his wife Lisa of Chepachet, Kerri Pezzullo and her husband David of Harrisville, Linda Corkum and her husband Todd of Port St. Lucie, FL; his beloved grandchildren, Jessica L. and Robert W. Kitson, Christopher ‘Robert Kitson’ Campbell and his wife Jessica, Rachel J., Lauren M., Michael J. and Steven J. Kitson, Kevin W. and Brian R. Corkum; his great-grandchildren, Kyle and Holden Kitson, Kayley and Lianna Puhacz and a brother, Raymond W. Kitson of Chepachet. He was the brother of the late John F. “Jack” and Richard J. Kitson and Jean T. Oliver.
His Funeral service will be Saturday at 9:30am in the ANDERSON-WINFIELD Funeral Home, Route 44 at Greenville Common, Greenville, RI. Burial will be in Acotes Hill Cemetery, Chepachet. Visitation Friday 4-7pm.
