Obituary

Standish, ME – Michael B. “Mickey” Grover, 61, of Standish, Maine, formerly of Haverhill, passed away peacefully with his family by his side at the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born in Haverhill, he was the son of the late William D. and Agnes E. (David) Grover. He attended Haverhill public schools and was a graduate of Haverhill High School, class of 1971. While in school Mickey was known as a great basketball player in the area and was holder of many records state wide. He and other Haverhill basketball players still hold the world record for the longest basketball game ever played (208 hours).
After High School, boxing became his passion and he still referred to as “Mickey the boxer” by local residents. He was interested in politics and enjoyed many years working in local government. His gift for working with people later led him to work with teens in the community and then to Holy Family Hospital, where his skills as as a substance abuse counselor helped many to find recovery. This is where he met his future wife Cynthia, a social worker at the hospital. They went on to have two children, who were the light of his life. Later in life, Mr. Grover became involved in the Antiques trade restoring, buying and selling. He spent hours roaming the roads of Maine looking for treasures that he greatly enjoyed talking about and sharing with others.
Mickey was well known for his sharp wit and great sense of humor. People often described him as “the funniest person they knew”. It was not unusual to find him at the center of a crowd, entertaining everyone.
A devoted husband and father, he leaves his beloved wife, Cynthia Ann (Levy) Grover, a son, Matthew A. Grover, and daughter, Paige D. Grover, all of Standish, ME; brothers Robert Grover and his wife, Linda, of Indiana, Timothy Grover, of Thailand and Steven Grover and his wife Colleen Sullivan, of Haverhill, a sister, Anna Jones and her husband, Ricky, of Haverhill, and several nieces and nephews.
