MATTAPOISETT: John J. Kassbian, 84, died on Friday, November 14, 2014 at Saint Luke’s Hospital in New Bedford.
He was born in New York City, NY on February 1, 1930 the son of the late Kegham Kassabian and Feridee (Bedik) Kassabian.
John was the beloved husband for 49 years of the late Carol (Hornsby) Kassabian who died on July 18, 2007.
He was the devoted father of Jay Kassabian and his wife Laurie Kassabian of Mattapoisett and Karen Piscitelli and her husband John Piscitelli of Hamilton and the late Ann L. Kassabian who died on November 28, 1990. Loving grandfather of Ann Marie Kassabian; Sarah Kassabian; Teddy Kassabian; Michael Kassabian; Jane Kassabian; John Kassabian; Sophie Piscitelli and Julia Piscitelli.
John spent his formative years in New York City, New York where he graduated from high school. He received his BS in Engineering from New York University with the Class of 1951. He served his country proudly during the Korean Conflict as a Lt. Commander with the United States Navy. Carol and John were married in Waltham in 1958 and moved to Wayland in 1962. For 8 years he resided in Lincoln before moving to the Mattapoisett area in 2011. He was an active and longtime member of the Weston United Methodist Church. He was a devoted volunteer for many organizations and provided countless hours volunteering within the community. John was an avid Red Sox fan and particularly enjoyed the friendships he made through the Retired Mens Club in Sudbury. John was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather and had a passion for supporting all the events and accomplishments of his children and grandchildren.
Visitations will be held on Tuesday, November 18, 2014 from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at the John C. Bryant Funeral Home, 56 Pemberton Road (Off Rte 30), Wayland.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, November 19, 2014 at 11:00 am at the Weston United Methodist Church, 377 North Avenue (Rte 117), Weston.
Interment will be in the Kassabian family lot in North Cemetery, Wayland.
In lieu of flowers, his family suggests the memorial gifts in John’s memory may be sent to the American Heart Assoc., PO BOX 417005, Boston, MA 02241-7005.
