Shirley L. (Brooks) Thompson, age 77, of Mansfield, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, on Saturday, November 15, 2014 at the Epoch Senior Healthcare in Norton. She was the beloved wife of the late John E. “Bud” Thompson who died on October 19, 2001.
Born in Boston, MA on May 10, 1937, she was a loving daughter of the late Frederick and Alice (Schremser) Brooks.
Shirley grew up in Webster and was a graduate of Webster High School. She later attended school to become a Certified Homecare Provider.
Mrs. Thompson was a dedicated homemaker to her adoring family. She loved helping others and taking care of children and friends.
Shirley’s favorite times spent were those amongst her family; especially during the holiday seasons. Her hobbies included knitting and sewing, and when younger was an avid bowler.
She is survived by her loving and devoted children; Wendy Drummond and her husband Dennis of Maine, Bernard Idman, Jr. of Walpole, John Idman and his wife Joy of Walpole, Susan Charette and her husband Christopher of Mansfield, and the late Debra Jean Idman. She was the cherished grandmother of Rebecca Idman, Jacob Charette, Dylan Charette, Grace Charette, and the late Britta Idman Drummond. She was the dear sister of Sylvia, Alice, Ruthie, Royce, Bob, Rita, Stanwood, and was pre-deceased by 5 of her siblings. She was the former wife of Bernard Idman, Sr. of Walpole and is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
At the request of her family, services and burial will be held privately. Visiting hours have been omitted and those wishing, may remember Mrs. Thompson with a donation in her memory made to the National Kidney Foundation, 30 East 33rd St., New York, New York 10016.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home, 55 North Main St., Mansfield.
