Obituary

Ethel P. Leverett, 97, of Fitzgerald, Georgia, died Thursday, November 13, 2014, at Southern Care Personal Care Home in Tifton.

Funeral services will be held 2 PM, Sunday, November 16, 2014, at The Paulk Funeral Home Chapel in Fitzgerald, with the Rev. Dr. Mike Ruffin officiating. Interment will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5-7 Saturday evening at the funeral home.

Mrs. Leverett was born October 10, 1917, in Adel, Georgia, to the late John Otis and Bessie McDaniel Phillips. She graduated high school in Cook County and had lived in Fitzgerald most of her life. She was formerly employed by Rogers Grocery Store, Denmark Drug Company, Barfield Drug Store, Williams Drapery Shop, and the Cotton Mill Store. For almost 30 years, Mrs. Leverett worked for The Paulk Funeral Home, where she served as secretary and insurance clerk. She assisted families in our community in all aspects of the funeral service. An active member of First Baptist Church, she worked in the children’s department for over 25 years, was a member of the Bethany Sunday school class, and was a member of the Louise Smith WMU Circle. She also enjoyed working in her yard.

She is survived by a son: John E. & Pamela Leverett of Loganville; a daughter: Brenda L. & David Cozart of Fitzgerald; grandchildren: Suzanne Leverett, Jim & Misty Avera, John Leverett, Jr., Chris & Stephanie Schubert, April & Timothy Powell, Jonathan Leverett, Brad & LeVon Cozart, and Pat Cozart; 13 great-grandchildren; three brothers: James & Sara Phillips of Fitzgerald, Bobby Ross & Barbara “Butch” Phillips and Van & Carolyn Phillips, all of Adel; and a sister: Kay & Jim Powell of Milton, Florida. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband: Julian Earnest Leverett; two brothers: J.O. Phillips and Harvey Phillips; and one sister: Gladys Cato.
