Obituary

Alice M. "Sister" (Smith) Heatley, a lifelong resident of Charlestown, entered into eternal life peacefully in her home surrounded by her loving family on Saturday, November 8, 2014 following an extended illness. She was 96 years old.

Alice was born in Boston on September 10, 1918, a daughter of the late Albert F. Smith and Mary T. (Kinsley) Smith. She grew up in Charlestown and was educated in the Boston Public School system. Alice worked for 37 years in the Maintenance Division for the former Metropolitan District Commission and retired at the age of 84 years young. Following her retirement, Alice stayed ambitious and worked several odd jobs just to keep herself busy. She enjoyed crocheting, was an avid reader and enjoyed traveling with her children. Alice took the meaning of family very seriously and was devoted to every aspect of her extended family.

Alice is the beloved wife of the late Albert F. Heatley. She is the devoted mother to Marilyn Pinto and her husband Ron of Arlington, Alice Lynch and her husband Ed of Charlestown, Diane Hayes and her husband John of Charlestown and the late Albert "Butch" Heatley. She is the loving Nana to Kathleen, Eileen, Albert, Maureen, Marytheresa, Erin, Christopher, Liam, Joal and her 8 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren. She is the beloved sister of the late Albert Smith, William Smith and Robert Smith. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Alice's Funeral on Wednesday, November 12, 2014 at 9 A.M. from The Carr Funeral Home, 220 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown followed by her Funeral Mass in St. Mary's Church, 55 Warren St. Charlestown at 10 A.M. Burial will be at Woodlawn Cemetery in Everett. Visiting hours will be on Tuesday, November 11, 2014 from 4 to 8 P.M. in the funeral home.
