Franklin---Genevieve "Genie" Zlotkowski, 92, long-time resident of the Golden Crest in Franklin, NH, died peacefully on Thursday, November 6, 2014 after a week of loving good-byes.
Genie was born in Jersey City, NJ, on January 19, 1922, the daughter of Stanislaw and Sophie Lukas, the fourth of five children. In 1943 she married Edward Zlotkowski, a marriage that lasted 56 years until his death in 2001. The couple moved to Ridgefield, NJ, in 1950 where Genie became very active in her home parish of St. Matthew’s Catholic Church as a member of the Holy Rosary Society. She was also involved in the Ridgefield Republican Club. She moved to Franklin, NH, in 2003 to be closer to her daughter, Pamela Hayes of Gilford. She soon became a lively member of the Golden Crest Senior Wellness Resort community, winning the affection and respect of residents and staff alike. She had a smile for everyone and always found a way to make others feel appreciated.
Genie loved card games, Scrabble, scotch, jelly beans, and dancing. She was often the life of the party. She formed lifelong friendships and spent many hours with friends and acquaintances at the Ridgefield pool complex and the Ridgefield Senior Center.
She is survived by her children, Edward, Pam, and Tom, her daughter-in-law, Ellen, her son-in-law, Kevin, and four grandchildren, Bethany, Conor, Ashley and Alissa.
She will be greatly missed by her children, grandchildren, nieces, and nephews as well her “family” at the Golden Crest.
There will be no calling hours.
There will be a Memorial Mass will be celebrated for her on Tuesday, November 11, 2014 at 10:00am at Saint Andre Bessette Parish, at Sacred Heart Church, 291 Union Avenue, Laconia New Hampshire.
There will also be a celebration of Genie’s life in Ridgefield, New Jersey in the spring.
