Obituary

William E. Savage, 81, of Worcester, passed away Wednesday, November 4th after a battle with Alzheimer’s disease. His wife of 51 years, Claire S. (Parenteau) Savage, died in 2012. He leaves a son, Michael Savage and his wife Jill of Charlton; two daughters, Renee Savage and her partner Louise Paradis of Rochester, NH and Kathy Savage of Rochester, NY; a brother, Frank Savage and his wife Beverly of Dennis; two grandchildren, Cian and Caden; nephews and nieces.
He was born in Worcester, the son of Francis E. and Mildred (Shaughnessy) Savage and graduated from St. John’s High School, Boston University, and Worcester State Teacher’s College. He had been a teacher of history and Assistant Principal for many years in the Worcester Public School System, including Burncoat Junior High, Providence Street Junior High, and Worcester East Middle School. He was a longtime member and collector at Our Lady of the Angels Church. He was also a member of the Massachusetts Retired Teachers Association and the Disabled American Veterans. Mr. Savage was a United States Air Force veteran. He enjoyed bird watching, playing golf, walking, playing cards, traveling, and dogs. He was an avid New England Sports fan.
The funeral is Saturday, November 8th from O’CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue, with a Mass at 10:00 A.M. in Our Lady of the Angels Church, 1222 Main Street. Burial will follow in St. John’s Cemetery. Calling hours are from 4:00 until 6:00 P.M. Friday, November 7th in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 480 Pleasant Street, Watertown, MA 02472.
