Obituary

God's beauty adorned our dear mother, Josephine Green, on the 29th day of October, 2014. Surrounded by her two daughters, Linda and Susan, and her son, Scot, and her grandchildren, Jody (as she was so warmly known as) passed away peacefully at home after a brief period of illness.
She joins her husband, Arthur, in heaven.
Jody was born on November 10, 1930 to Julia and Angelo DeCunzo, in Mount Kisco, New York. She was raised with her family on a farm and enjoyed all her daily farm chores. She also attended business school in New York City. It was in high school that Jody and Art (as he was warmly known as) met and was love at first sight. After their marriage in 1949, Jody and Art lived on beautiful estates in Westchester County, NY, where Art was the master gardener and they began their family. In 1957 they purchased Mount Kisco Florist and Nursery, where Art was the head grower and Jody was the master floral designer. They flourished in this business and created warm and cherished memories for their children to always remember. Jody and Art moved their family to Somers, New York in 1957, where the family built many happy memories. Happy years filled with friends, family, and lots of animals. Jody worked for the Somers Central School District for many years, where she was loved by students and faculty alike. They lived in Somers until their retirement to Nantucket, MA in 1986.
Retirement was a foreign word for Jody. She continued working on Nantucket at the Nantucket Cottage Hospital in administration and when retired from there, she worked part time at Murray's Toggery Shop, where she was right in her element, meeting new people every day and helping them any way she could. She made numerous friends and cultivated long lasting friendships on Nantucket, and was always a part of the neighborhood get togethers. She had a love affair with Nantucket, and could always be found walking the beach looking for sea glass - with her dogs, of course.
Jody remained on Nantucket after her husband's passing in 1997 until her move to The Pinehills in Plymouth, MA in 2010, where she lived with her daughter, Susan, and their faithful Shih-Tzu companion, Francis. Jody met many new friends in Pinehills, many of whom she got to know through the "dog group." As Jody's eyesight began to fail from macular degeneration, she always recognized her friends from voice, and of course by their dogs, as she enjoyed long walks with Francis throughout Pinehills.
Jody was a deeply compassionate woman who cared very deeply for her friends and family. She was an avid reader before her eyesight failed her, and also enjoyed cooking and gardening.
Jody's husband, Arthur, predeceased her in March of 1997. Her survivors are her sister, Marie Scarsella of Goldens Bridge, NY, her brother Ralph DeCunzo of Helena, Montana, her daughter Linda Green of Phoenix, AZ, her son Scot Green of Woodstock, GA, and her daughter Susan Green of Plymouth, MA. She is also survived by her loving grandchildren, Jessica, Joshua, Jennifer and Agatha.
A church memorial service at Saint Bonaventure's Parish in Plymouth, MA will be held at a later date. Friends and family are welcome.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Jody's memory can be made to Cranberry Hospice, 36 Cordage Park Circle Suite 326 Plymouth, MA 02360, or Saint Bonaventure's Parish, PO Box 996 Manomet, MA 02345.
