Obituary

Beatrice A. Fye, 95, of Wayland passed away peacefully in her home on November 2, 2014 surrounded by her family. Loving wife and mother, Bea recently celebrated her seventieth wedding anniversary with her devoted husband, David L. Fye.
Bea had a remarkable and fulfilling life. Born in Boston to Martin M. and Anna C. Mugar, Bea graduated from Cambridge Latin High School. Inspired by her Uncle Marvin Julian, a noted Boston portrait painter, she developed an early love of art, graduating from Massachusetts College of Art in 1941 and continuing her art education at the Corcoran Art School in Washington D.C. and the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston. As an art teacher in Wayland public schools and adult education classes, Bea inspired many generations of students. A longtime member of the Lexington Arts and Crafts Society and Arts Wayland, Bea received many awards for her work.
During World War II, Bea was a secretary in the Physics Department of Harvard University where she worked with many notable physicists of the era. She met her future husband, David, while he was in Boston as a Navy officer attending electronics and radar schools.
Bea was a successful real estate broker and many of her clients became lifelong friends. She was very active in the community where she was a founding member of the Woodridge Garden Club and a longtime member of the Wayland Women’s Club. She expressed her love of music through many years in the choir at the First Parish Church in Weston and as a member of the Golden Tones.
Most of all, Bea was devoted to her family. A wonderful cook and hostess, she loved nothing more than bringing her extended family together. Bea will always be remembered for her kindness, generosity, and compassion. She is dearly missed by all who knew her.

In addition to her loving husband, David, Bea is survived by her children: Donald M. Fye and his wife Kaia A. Fye of Wayland; Robert F. Fye and his wife Mary-Louise Fye of Middletown, R.I.; and Pamela F. Mauer of Wayland. She dearly loved her grandchildren: Kristin A. and Lauren M. Fye; Jessica M. and Alexander S. M. Fye and their late brother Robert S. H. Fye; and Cynthia A. and David F. Mauer. She is predeceased by her siblings Mary A. Tatoian, John M. Mugar, and Irene Pike.
A memorial service celebrating Bea’s life will be held on Saturday, November 8, 2014 at 11:30 AM at the First Parish Church in Weston, 349 Boston Post Road, Weston, MA.
Donations in Bea’s memory may be made to Make-A-Wish® America, Gift Processing, 4742 North 24th Street, Suite 400, Phoenix, AZ 85016.
