Gloria P. (Pina) Fernandes, 93, of New Bedford passed away at home on Monday November 3, 2014 surrounded by her loving family. She was the daughter of the late Joseph T. and Mary "Bebe" Pina. She was the wife of the late David G. Fernandes to whom she had been married for 67 years. She was born in New Bedford and lived her entire life there.
She is survived by her children Patricia Vale, Eugenia "Jeanie" Sena and her husband John, and David G. Fernandes Jr. She was the mother of the late David G. Fernandes II. She was the grandmother of Peter Vale and his wife Dorinda, Jeffrey Vale and his wife Sandy, Jennifer Villeneuve and her husband Thomas, John Sena Jr., and Michael Sena and his fiancée Jessica Washburn. She was the great-grandmother of Isaac, DD, Addy, P.J., Landon, Nola, and Brianna. She is survived by her sister-in-law, Regina Fernandes. She also had many loving and caring nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly. She was the sister of the late Edward T. Pina and his wife Mary, and Louis T. Pina and his wife Mary "Babe". She was the sister-in-law of the late Antonio Fernandes and his wife Candida, Daniel Fernandes and his wife Anne, Luiza Fernandes, Justa Pires and her husband Joseph, and Turibio Fernandes.
A devoted homemaker, her husband, children, and grandchildren were her life and she loved every minute that she spent with them. She was known for being a loving and caring woman to all who knew her.
Her funeral will be held on Wednesday, November 5, 2014 at 10 AM from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford, with a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Lawrence Martyr Church at 11 AM. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery. Visiting hours will be on Tuesday from 3-7 PM . Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
