Joseph A. Guidi, 82, of Derry, NH, died Friday October 31, 2014 in Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital in Boston, MA. He was born in Somerville, MA on January 21, 1932, a son of the late Guido and Julia (Pucchetti) Guidi. He had been a resident of Derry for the past 20 years, formerly living in Stoneham, MA and Somerville, MA. Joseph was a US Navy veteran serving during the Korean Conflict. While living in Somerville, he had served as an Alderman and Alderman President, as well as an acting Mayor. He received the Young Man of the Year Award. While living in Derry, he was active in the Derry community. He was a basketball coach for West Running Brook Middle School, and had served as a coach for the Little Lady Astros. Joe also served as a volunteer member on the Derry Police Committee.
He is survived by his wife Eleanor (Dobson) Guidi of Derry; four sons, Kevin Guidi and his wife Jean of Auburn, ME, Glen Guidi and his wife Susan of Derry, NH. Mark Guidi of Saugus, MA, and Gregory Guidi and his wife Janice of Wakefield, MA; eight grandchildren, Kevin, Glen, Melissa, Julianne, Ashley, Joe, Kaitlyn, and Alexandra (AJ); two great grandchildren, Ryan and Daryn; his sister-in-law, Doris Langone of Derry, NH; as well as several nieces and nephews. He will be missed by his loving dog Pinocchio.
Following cremation, calling hours were held on Wednesday, November 5th from 5 - 7:30pm in the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 15 Birch St., Derry.
