Obituary

Richard Arthur “Dick” Hill, 92, of Tifton died Saturday, November 1, 2014, at Grace Manor Assisted Living. His funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 5, 2014, at the Peace Lutheran Church in Tifton with Rev. Earl Steffens officiating. Mr. Hill will be laid to rest at Oak Ridge Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, November 5, 2014, from 10:00 a.m. until the hour of the service at the Peace Lutheran Church in Tifton.

James Sapp, Clint Patterson, Ricky Benson, John C. Williams, Jacob Drawdy and Josh Williams will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Robert Hellwig, Otis Waters, Carl Young and Timothy Suggs.

Mr. Hill was born on August 23, 1922 in Yorktown, Saskatchewan, Canada and was the son of Arthur Russell Hill and Laura Belle Mensch Hill, both deceased. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Nell Smith Hill, who died in 2008; one brother and sister-in-law, James Russell Hill and his wife, Joyce. He was retired from Roddenberry Hardware and Short and Paulk. He was a veteran of the United States Navy and served during World War II. He served as Scout Master for Boy Scout Troop 62 at Tifton’s First United Methodist Church and was a member of the Peace Lutheran Church in Tifton.

Mr. Hill is survived by his children and their spouses, Laura Nell Hill of Mount Lebanon, Pennsylvania, Margaret and Bill Bard of Brookfield; his grandchildren and their spouses, Marie and Jaime Morris of Dhaka, Bangladesh, Timothy Austin Suggs of Macon and Tiffany Hope Suggs of Athens; his great-grandchildren, Mackenzie Grace Morris and Stirling Richard Morris; his nephews and their wives, Keith Russell and Shelly Hill of Champaign, Illinois and Larry Grant and Rosie Hill of Sterling, Illinois.
