Jewel L. Akins, 97, formerly of Chula, died Saturday, November 1, 2014 at Hospice in Adel. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 5, 2014, at Mount Zion Baptist Church Cemetery in Chula with Rev Dan Edison officiating.
Mrs. Akins was born on November 30, 1916 and was the daughter of William D. Akins and Annie Bell Turk Akins, both deceased. She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Virginia Anderson and Ruth Smith; one brother, Billy Akins; and a nephew, Bill Smith. She was a former member of the First Baptist Church of Chula. She was a retired employee of the United States Government, having served at Warner Robins Air Force Base as procurement agent of United States Army and made her home in Macon. She was an active member of Vineville Baptist Church in Macon.
Ms. Akins is survived by nieces, Charlene Smith and Cheryl Smith, both of Savannah; nephews, Paul Akins (Peggy), George Akins (Angela), all of Tifton, Charles Smith of Metter; several great-nieces and great-nephews; and a sister-in-law, Hilda Akins of Welaka, Florida
