Elizabeth "Liz" Louise Faulkner Latuch passed away on Monday, October, 27, 2014 at home, with her children by her side, bringing to a close what she described as a long, happy and adventurous life. Liz was the first child of the late George Taylor Faulkner and the late Harriet Louise (Rock) Faulkner, born on September 7, 1931 in Providence, RI. Her perseverance and tenacity started that very day, as she was born weighing just over 3 pounds. She grew up in Lexington, MA and attended Daycroft School in Stamford, CT and Concord Academy in Concord, MA, followed by the Katherine Gibbs Secretarial School in Boston, MA. She then served eight years in the United States Army during the Korean War, mostly in Germany. After her discharge as a Sergeant, she attended and graduated from the University of New Hampshire with a BS degree in mathematics. Liz enjoyed a very diverse range of careers and interests. She taught mathematics in the Vermont and New Hampshire public school systems. She worked as a professional obedience and field trial trainer of golden retrievers. She worked as an electrician on nuclear submarines and finally as a postal worker.
Liz sang with the Marlboro Chorus from 1967 to 1972 at Marlboro Music School in Marlboro, VT, singing notable classical works of the 18th and 19th century. While in this chorus she sang in the New York City town hall and made several recordings. Liz was surrounded by music for most of her life, her father having been a professional conductor and music teacher. As a child she played violin and piano and in her later years she taught herself to play the guitar. Most recently Liz was known for her impeccable abilities in making heirloom children's clothing, utilizing the fine craft of smocking and tatting. Her works were juried by the League of New Hampshire Craftsmen but she most enjoyed making things for people she knew, only asking for pictures, rather than money in return for her gifts. Liz spent much of her last two decades on the road in her motorhome, exploring. She loved good Scotch ("A Wee Doech an Doris"), good jokes, good company, and being "naughty" without getting caught.
She is survived by her two children; Martha (Latuch) Copeland and her husband, Dr. Scott Copeland of Derry, NH, and her son Dennis Faulkner Latuch and his wife Geraldine (Todd) Latuch of Fairhaven, MA; her sister Lucy Ann (Faulkner) Davison, of Concord, NH; her brother Bruce William Faulkner and his wife Karen Faulkner of Lakeland, FL; and two nieces, Tina Faulkner-Sleicher and Diana (Faulkner) McGuire, and their respective families. She is also survived by her former husband, Royal Dennis Latuch and his partner Thomas Greenlaw of Warner, NH.
Per her request, there will be no formal services. Instead, her remains will be cremated and her ashes spread over many of her most favorite places along the East coast. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Legion Post #27, P.O. Box 631, Londonderry, NH 03053. The Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 15 Birch St., Derry is assisting the family with arrangements.
