Obituary

SEABROOK, NH: Charles H. “Charlie” Hayden, 93, formerly of Bradford, died Friday, October 24, 2014 in the Frances Georgeson Hospice House, Naples, Florida following a brief illness. He was the husband of the late Marguerite F. “Peggy” (Fleming) Hayden who died in 2001.
Born in Lochaber, Nova Scotia, Canada on January 6, 1921, he was the son of the late George F. and Lillian B. (Cameron) Hayden. He was a graduate of Haverhill High School class of 1939 and had resided in Bradford for many years before moving to Seabrook in 1990. A U.S. Army veteran of World War Two, he served in the 3154th Signal Service Company before being honorably discharged on October 11, 1945.
Charlie was employed as a supervisor and section chief at Western Electric in North Andover for thirty-four years before his retirement in 1981. He was a communicant of Sacred Hearts Parish, where he was a charter member of the St. Vincent de Paul Society and a member and past president of the Holy Name Society. He was also a member of Sun Valley Association of Hampton, New Hampshire 100 Club and a former member of the Bishop Minihan Council #202, Knights of Columbus in Haverhill.
Charlie was a role model to his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and all those he loved. In his own words, “I have had a lifetime of love and I am the luckiest man in the world.”
He is survived by his three daughters, Andrea L. DiGuilio and her husband, Anthony, Robin J. Hayden and Gail P. Hayden all of Bradford; three sons, Grant T. Hayden and his wife, Virginia of Huntington, CT, Mark J. Hayden and his wife, Margot of Bradford and Thomas P. Hayden and his life partner, Marian Conley of Bradford; his dear companion, Margaret “Peggy” Stevens of Naples, FL and her family; eight grandchildren, Gina Hayden-Selner, Gretchen Hayden, Lea Bakalyar, Connor Hayden, Sean Hayden, Adam Hayden, Leanne Damphousse and Jill Bailey; six great-grandchildren, Michael Gilligan, Noah Bakalyar, Jake and Spencer Damphousse and Marguerite and Ryann Bailey; one sister, Ethel Kinsman of Haverhill; one brother, George Hayden of Bradford and among the many nieces and nephews is a special niece, Diane Lavallee. He was also predeceased by his two sons, Charles E. and Robert C. Hayden, a great-grandson, Cameron Gilligan, a sister, Miriam Hayden and a brother, Staff Sgt. Grant F. Hayden, U.S.A.F.
His funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday in Sacred Hearts Church, 165 South Main St., Bradford at 10 a.m. Visiting hours will be held on Sunday in the Linnehan-Grondin Funeral Home, 129 Kenoza Ave., Haverhill from 1 – 4 p.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to American Diabetes Assoc., 10 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701, American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St., Framingham or to the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation, 230 E. Ohio St., Suite 304, Chicago, IL 60611. Interment with military honors will be held in the Elmwood Cemetery, Bradford.
