Obituary

GLOUCESTER: Robert G. Johnsen, Jr., 50, died unexpectedly on October 26, 2014.
Born in Lawrence on May 7, 1964, he was the son of Robert G., Sr. and Myrna L. (Barbrick) Johnsen. He was a lifelong resident of Gloucester and graduate of the Gloucester High School class of 1982.
Bob was employed as a police officer for the City of Gloucester for the past twenty years. Prior to that, he had been a manager at Friendly’s Ice Cream Shop for many years.
He was a charismatic and outgoing man who loved to golf and could often be found at the Cape Ann Golf Course in Essex. He also enjoyed working in his yard and relaxing by his fire pit. Yet the most important thing to him in his life was his son Derek, his miracle baby, who made him smile everyday from the day he was born. Bob was an extraordinary father, son, uncle, and friend to many.
In addition to his parents and his son, Derek M. Johnsen, he is survived by his former spouse, Catherine A. (Parco) Stevens, a daughter, Britney Tarantino, companion of Andrew Shoemaker, grandson, Chandler Shoemaker, his brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Corina Johnsen, sister and brother-in-law, Tammi and Brian Richardson; nieces and nephews, Christina and Rikki Johnsen, Rachel Johnsen and Jonathan Rivera-Johnsen, Nicole and Nathan Frost; grandniece, Athena Johnsen, and grandnephews, Christopher and Sean Todd. His family feels very blessed to have had him in their lives and will deeply miss him. He will be in their hearts and thoughts forever.
His funeral service will be held on Thursday morning in the Lanesville Orthodox Congregational Church, 1120 Washington St., Gloucester at 11:30 a.m. Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday in the Pike-Grondin Funeral Home, 61 Middle Street, Gloucester from 4 – 7 p.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made in his memory to the family c/o Richard G. Johnsen, 22A Keystone Rd., Gloucester, MA 01930. Interment will be held in the Beechbrook Cemetery, West Gloucester.
