PEABODY: Phyllis J. (Newman) Driscoll, 90, formerly of Gloucester, died Tuesday, October 21, 2014 at Brooksby Village, Peabody following an extended illness. She was the wife of the late Robert S. Driscoll who died in 2009.
Born in Brookline on October 8, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Rodney S. and Dorothy M. (Bovenzi) Newman. She was a graduate of Brookline High School and the former Katherine Gibbs Secretarial School. She had resided in Boston for many years before moving to Cape Ann in 1952.
Phyllis was once employed at Blue Cross-Blue Shield in Boston for several years. She was also instrumental in helping her husband start several successful businesses in the building trade industry. She enjoyed gardening, playing bridge, was an avid reader and loved to travel the world with her husband.
She is survived by her daughter, Sarah Cross Clary and her husband, Robert Clary and granddaughter, Maggie Clary all of Gloucester and several nieces and nephews. She was also predeceased by her brother, Marnal Newman, brother-in-law, Bennet Driscoll, Sr. and his wife, Betty and her former son-in-law, Robert Cross.
Her funeral service will be held on Monday, October 27th in the Brooksby Village Chapel, Brooksby Village Dr., Peabody at 12:30 p.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend.
