William F. Twiss, Sr. 78 years of Brockton died of cancer on Sunday at his home. He was a marine during WW II who was in the Battle of Iwo Jima and received the purple heart medal.
He was born in Jamaica Plain son of the late William F. and Evelyn A. (Sullivan) Twiss. He married Alberta (Jope) Twiss 56 years ago and they have lived in Brockton for the past 48 years. Previously they resided in Abington and West Roxbury.
Mr. Twiss had been employed by the C.H. Babb Company of Raynham as a baking mechanic traveling all over the world installing and maintaining ovens. He had worked in Cairo, Damascus, Beirut, Hawaii and Australia. While in Egypt he had met President Anwar Sadat.
Mr. Twiss was a member of the Disabled American Veterans. H e enjoyed boating on the Cape, camping and being around his family.
In addition to his wife he is survived by four sons and a daughter William F. Twiss, Jr. of Brockton; Francis E. Twiss and his wife Mary Beth of Whitman; Frederick B. Twiss and his wife Cheryl of Tiverton, RI; Jon D. Twiss of Manchester, NH and Linda L. Gioscia and her husband Mike of Halifax. One sister Evelyn Campitelli of Quincy.
Mr. Twiss had nine grandchildren ranging in age from one to thirty years old. He also had one great grand child and many nieces and nephews
He was the brother of the late Barbara Murray and George Twiss
