Obituary

Macon, GA: Charles R. Hicks, Sr., 96, formerly of Paxton, MA, former WTAG Radio Engineer and operator of amateur radio station W1JDI, passed away on Saturday, October 18, 2014, in the Oaks at Peake Nursing Home in Macon, Georgia. He leaves a son, retired Police Chief Charles R. Hicks Jr., formerly of Holden; 2 daughters, Sharon Hicks of Big Canoe, GA and Anne E. Lang of Winchendon, MA; two nieces; six grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter. His wife, Barbara (Worden) Hicks predeceased him.

Charles was born and raised in Worcester, son of the late Harry and Amy (Bee) Hicks. Mr. Hicks was a graduate of South High School, where he was president of the Radio Club. He graduated from the Cleveland Institute of Electronics where he majored in Broadcast Engineering. He began his work in broadcast engineering at radio station WORC. He then transferred to WTAG where he worked until retirement.

He was a former member of First Congregational Church of Paxton, the Worcester Historical Society, the Mechanics Hall Association, the Amateur Radio Association, and the American Communications Association.
