Obituary

CHICOPEE – Hannie (Dabaghy) Ghareeb, 92, of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Tuesday, October 14, 2014. She passed into Eternal Life at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield surrounded by the care and comfort of her loving family. She was born in Aitha Al-Fakhar, Lebanon on January 1, 1922, a beloved daughter of the late Georges Dabaghy and Mariam (Ghareeb) Dabaghy. She was raised in Lebanon and moved to Chicopee in 1975. Active in her faith, she was a communicant of Saint George Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Springfield. Most of all, she was a wonderful homemaker to her family and showered them with her love and affection. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Andrew Ghareeb who translated Kahlil Gibran’s early works to English. He was Called Home on March 12, 2000. She was also predeceased by her loving daughter, Gladys who was Called Home on December 27, 2012; and her dear brothers, John and Saad Dabaghy. She leaves her loving children, Edmund Ghareeb and his wife, Shirin, of Bethesda, MD, and Edna and Mary Ghareeb, both of Chicopee with whom she lived; her loving son-in-law, Chebel Gharib of Lebanon; her three cherished grandsons, Faris Ghareeb of Washington, DC, and Rabi’ and Naji Gharib, both of Lebanon; her dear brother, Elias Dabaghy of Argentina; her dear sisters, Samira Sayegh of Canada, and Mabel Dabaghy and Wadad Khattar both of Lebanon; her dear sister-in-law, Hadla Dabaghy of Virginia; and her many dear nephews, nieces, cousins and extended members of the Ghareeb and Dabaghy families. Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, October 22, 2014 from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. followed by a Funeral Service at 11 a.m. at Saint George Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 2320 Main Street, Springfield, MA 01107. Her burial will follow the Service at Fairview Cemetery, Abbey Memorial Drive, Chicopee, MA 01013. Her family has requested that memorial donations be made in her memory to the Lebanese Fund at Saint George Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 22 Saint George Road, Springfield, MA 01104.
