Obituary

CHICOPEE – Marcel J. “Mickey” Gaudet, 84, of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Wednesday, October 15, 2014. He passed into Eternal Life at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Leeds surrounded by the care and comfort of his loving family and his wonderful caregivers. He was born at home on Skeele Street in the Willimansett section of Chicopee on July 28, 1930, a son of the late Ernest P. and Cosette L. (Giroux) Gaudet. He was raised in Willimansett and graduated from Chicopee Trade High School. He enlisted in the United States Coast Guard and served his country during the Korean War and attained the rank of Seaman. Following his military service, he was employed as a bus driver for the Arrow Bus Lines in East Hartford, Connecticut and retired in 1986. Following retirement, he lived in Enfield, New Hampshire before returning to Chicopee around 2008. He was a member of the Willimansett American Legion Post 353 and a communicant of Saint Anne Church in Chicopee. He was predeceased by his beloved wife and best friend, Joyce E. (Devine) Gaudet who was Called Home on March 29, 2007. They were married on June 28, 1952 at Saint Michael’s Cathedral in Springfield and were blessed with over 54 years of happiness together. Besides his parents and his wife, he was also predeceased by his beloved children, Mary Elizabeth Gaudet who was Called Home on April 5, 1955 and Richard P. Gaudet who was Called Home on March 17, 1999; and his dear brothers, Roger D. Gaudet, and Pierre J. “Pete Gaudet who was Called Home on June 26, 2013. He leaves his loving children, David J. Gaudet and his wife, Marsha, of Enfield, NH, Elizabeth M. Hamlin and her husband, Donald, of Belmont, NH, Margaret A. “Peggy” Chartier of Chicopee and John R. Gaudet and his wife, Stacy, of Glennpool, OK; his many cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren; his dear brother, Paul Gaudet and Nancy Taylor, of Zephyrhills, FL; his dear sisters, Jacqueline Pelchar of Glens Falls, NY, Sister Diane Gaudet, SSJ of Holyoke and Marie Lefebvre and her husband, David, of Bedford, TX; his dear sisters-in-law, Judy Gaudet of Colorado Springs, CO and Rita Gaudet of Chicopee; and his many dear nephews, nieces, cousins and extended members of the Gaudet and Devine families. His funeral with US Coast Guard Military Honors will be held on Tuesday morning, October 21, 2014 beginning at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Fairview Chapels, (413-533-3307), 506 Britton Street, Chicopee, MA 01020, (funeral home will open at 8:30 a.m.), followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at Saint Anne Church, 30 College Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. His burial will be private at the convenience of his family at Notre Dame Cemetery, 63 Lyman Street, South Hadley, MA 01075. His family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday, October 20, 2014 from 4 pm. to 7 p.m. The parking lot is located in the rear of the funeral home. His family has requested that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in his memory to the Sisters of Saint Joseph, 577 Carew Street, Springfield, MA 01104.
