Shirley W. (Gaudette) Labonte, age 88, passed away on Oct.14, 2014 at Baystate Medical Center. She was born in Plainville, CT on Aug. 15, 1926, a daughter of the late LeRoy and Alice (Barden) Gaudette. She was a resident of Springfield for most of her life. She was a member of the Foster Memorial Congregational Church in Springfield. Shirley enjoyed fishing and boating, gardening, canning, cooking, baking, sewing, crocheting, knitting and playing the organ. She was an extraordinary person with great compassion for people and animals alike. She is predeceased by her husband, Louis P. Labonte, who passed away in August 2013. She leaves 2 sons, Davis Labonte (Michelle) of Chicopee; Linden Labonte (Donna) of Springfield; 3 daughters, Donna Turner (Carl) of Jacksonville, FL, Shellie White (Kevin) of Longmeadow and Alyson Labonte of Springfield; 11 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and 1 great great granddaughter, Kielei. She also leaves many nieces, nephews and extended family that will miss her. She is predeceased by her 3 brothers Linden, Winston and Claude and also by her sister Constance Clapp. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the therapists at Heath South in Ludlow; at Willimansett West Nursing Home, as well as the staff at Baystate Medical Center for all of the care they had given to Shirley during her stays. Calling hours will be held at the Grise Funeral Home, 280 Springfield St, Chicopee, on the morning of the funeral, Monday, Oct. 20, 2014, from 10:00-11:30 a.m. followed by a Memorial Mass at the Foster Memorial Congregational Church at 12:30 p.m. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family.
