Obituary

Arthur V. Locke, a 65 year resident of Charlestown, entered into eternal life at his home in Charlestown on Sunday, October 12, 2014 following a brief illness. He was 90 years old.

Arthur was born in Tralee, County Kerry, Ireland on August 26, 1924, a son of the late Patrick Locke and Ellen (Finn) Locke. He grew up in Tralee where he was educated there. At the age of 16, Arthur traveled to England where he worked for 4 years. In December of 1948, Arthur along with his brother Mike decided to immigrate to the United States and took the long boat trip from Ireland to New York where they were met by their brother on January 6, 1949. Since that date, Arthur has lived in Charlestown where he met his beloved wife and brought up their children. Arthur worked for over 40 years as a laborer for the Boston Gas Company and was a retired member of the Steelworkers Union Local # 12003. Arthur was also a member of the Halligan Club in Charlestown. Most of all, Arthur was a dedicated family man and took pride of his Irish heritage and traveled often back to his hometown in Ireland with his wife Jane. He was an avid supporter of the County Kerry football team and enjoyed gardening and growing his tomato's in his backyard.

Arthur is the beloved husband of the late Jane P. (Mullan) Locke. He is the devoted father of Thomas Locke and his wife Kathleen of Everett, Patrick Locke and his wife Kathleen of Melrose and Charlestown, Hank Locke of Charlestown, Rosellen Locke of Charlestown and the late Arthur V. Locke Jr. He is the loving Papa to April, Christine, Kerri, Padraic, Katy, Paul, Quinlan and his great-grandchildren Jacob, Shane, Matthew, Liam and Emma. He is the beloved brother of Michael Locke of Medford, Frank Locke of Tralee, County Kerry, Ireland and pre-deceased by 18 brothers and sisters. He is the brother-in-law of Hugh and Collette Mullan of Portstewart, County Derry, Ireland. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Arthur's Funeral on Friday, October 17, 2014 at 9 A.M. from The Carr Funeral Home, 220 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown followed by his Funeral Mass in St. Francis De Sales Church, 313 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown at 10 A.M. Burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery in Malden. Visiting hours will be on Thursday, October 16, 2014 from 4 to 8 P.M. in the funeral home.
