Adolph P. Vieira, 79, of Dartmouth died Friday December 3, 2004 at the Oaks Nursing Home after a brief illness. He was the husband of Genevieve M. (Gonet) Vieira.
Born in New Bedford, the son of the late John and Maria P. (Costa) Vieira, he had lived in Dartmouth since 1947.
He was a communicant of St. Mary's Church in South Dartmouth.
Mr. Vieira was formerly employed as a letter carrier with the United States Postal Service in New Bedford until his retirement.
Mr. Vieira served in the U.S. Army during World War II with the 428th Field Artillery Group, participating in the Battle of Rome-Arno, and was a recipient of the European-African-Middle Eastern Theater Campaign medal, the American Campaign medal, the Good Conduct medal and the World War II Victory medal. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Andrews-Dahill Post 1531.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Jane Vieira and Susan Shea and her husband Peter, all of Dartmouth; a sister, Mrs. Edward Kocor of New Bedford; two grandchildren, Aimee Shea and Joshua Shea; and several nieces and nephews.
He was the brother of the late Anibal P. Vieira, Margaret Rego, and Elvira Moniz.
Funeral from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford Monday December 6, 2004 at 9 AM. Funeral Mass at St. Mary's Church, South Dartmouth at 10 AM. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting hours will be on Sunday December 5, 2004 from 2-5 PM. Burial will be in South Dartmouth Cemetery.
