NATICK, MA: Lucille (Sullivan) Durkin, formerly of New Haven, CT, and Boca Raton, FL, passed away Tuesday evening, October 7, 2014.
Born in New Haven, CT, on Sept. 9,1925, she was the daughter of John and Cecelia (Leonard) Sullivan, both of whom died in 1986. Lucille was a 1941 graduate of St. Frances High School in Fair Haven, CT, and continued her education at St. Raphael’s School of Nursing where she earned her RN. She happily served patients for over 40 years, whether as a dedicated surgical nurse at St. Raphael’s for many years, or later as a Public Health, School, or Visiting Nurse, primarily in New Haven and Guilford.
Lucille loved the shore and the sun, so, upon retiring from the Medical Department at Southern New England Telephone, she moved to Boca Raton, FL, where she walked the beach daily. As health began to fail her, she returned to her beloved New England where she could watch her granddaughter grow.
She is survived by her son, Michael J. Durkin, Jr. and his wife, Stephanie, of Natick, MA; her granddaughter, Alle Durkin, of Natick; and a sister, Marilyn Sullivan, of Boca Raton, FL.
Relatives and friends are welcome to gather at the John Everett & Sons Funeral Home, 4 Park Street at Natick Common, on Wednesday, October 15th at 9:00AM and proceed to a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Patrick’s Church, 44 East Central Street, Natick, at 10:00AM. Burial will follow at Glenwood Cemetery, Natick.
