Obituary

Daniel J. Vecchione, 77, of Londonderry, NH passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 9, 2014 at Mass General Hospital, Boston, MA surrounded by his loving family. He was born on October 4, 1937 in Newton, MA, a son of the late Giovanni and Lucia (Cedrone) Vecchione. He was a resident of Londonderry for 33 years, formerly living in Newton, MA. Daniel was a self-employed contractor for many years and was a member of the NH Home Builders. He was very active in the Londonderry Community. He was a Londonderry Selectman for 9 years, served on the Planning Board, and served as Chairman of the Town Council. He was also a past President of the Chamber of Commerce and a member of the Londonderry Rotary Club. Daniel attended St. Jude Parish in Londonderry where he was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He was an avid Boston Red Sox fan, enjoyed trips to Foxwoods, gardening and walking at the Mall with his wife. Daniel enjoyed spending time with his family especially their weekly Pancake night and Pizza night.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years, Nancy (McNamara) Vecchione of Londonderry, his six children, Cindy Abbott and husband William of Londonderry, Kenneth Vecchione and wife Margie of Londonderry, Cheryl Young and husband James of Londonderry, Kevin Vecchione and wife Frances of Newton, MA, Cathy Lynch and husband Ken of Londonderry, and Carolyn Hoyt and husband John of Londonderry, 11 grandchildren, Kelly, Kristen, Kaitlyn, Keith, Colleen, Michelle, Micaela, Meghan, Colby, McKenzie, and Emily, his two four-legged grandchildren, Homer and Pumpkin, one great grandson soon to arrive, one sister, Christine Collini and husband Charles of Watertown, MA, two brothers, Alfred Vecchione and wife Eleanor of Harwich, MA and Gerald Vecchione and wife Deanna of York, ME, one sister-in-law, Judith Proia and husband Stephen, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by six sisters, Lena Yobaccio, Laura Russo, Marguerite Thambash, Louise Bove, Bessie Marcuccilli, and Mary Tambascio and one brother John Vecchione Jr.

Calling hours were held Monday, October 13th from 4 – 8pm at Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 290 Mammoth Rd., Londonderry, NH. A Liturgy of Christian Burial was celebrated on Tuesday at 10:00am in St. Jude Parish, 435 Mammoth Rd., Londonderry with cremation following. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 10 Speen Street, 2nd Floor, Framingham, Massachusetts 01701.
