GLOUCESTER: Paul M. Earl, 81, died Saturday morning, October 4, 2014, at his home following an extended illness. He was the husband of Patricia M. (Moynihan) Earl.
Born in Pontiac, Michigan on September 7, 1933, he was the son of the late Marvin R. and Mary (Serbinoff) Earl.
A U.S. Marine Corps veteran of the Korean War, he was honorably discharged on July 15, 1955. He had resided in Michigan for many years before moving to Gloucester in 1970.
He was employed by the National Marine Fisheries Service for over thirty years before his retirement as the director of import/export in the early 1990’s.
Paul was a former member of the Gloucester Lodge of Elks No. 892. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed fishing and hunting. He also loved woodworking.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Michael Earl of Gloucester, Mark Earl and his wife, Jody of Peachtree City, GA, Marcie Smith and her husband, Scott of Danvers, and Matthew Earl and his wife, Kristin of Bradenton, FL; eight grandchildren, Ryan, Riley and Reese Earl of Peachtree City, Jacob Reid and Colton Smith of Danvers, Jason and Merina Earl of Bradenton; a sister-in-law, Kay, wife of Ed Jenkins of AZ; brother-in-law, Jack, husband of Jan Moynihan of FL and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be privately held at the convenience of the family. There are no visiting hours. Expressions of sympathy may be made in his name to the Cape Ann Animal Aid, 4 Paws Lane, Gloucester, MA 01930.
