Obituary

Athanasios Voyiatzis, 60, of Paxton, died Saturday, October 4th in Brigham and Woman’s Hospital surrounded by his loving family and friends. He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Anna (Mezene) Voyiatzis; his daughter, Phyllis Voyiatzis Gertsios and her husband Ilias of Worcester; a sister, Chrysanthi Hatzopoulos and her husband, Trifon of Worcester; two grandchildren, Ioannis and Fotini Gertsios both of Worcester and his niece Irene Koutroumanos. His son Alexandros Voyiatzis died, June 30, 2002.
He was born in Chrisohorafa, Serron, Greece the son of Alexios and Garyfalia (Voyiatzis) Voyiatzis and came to Worcester in 1973. Mr. Voyiatzis was a restaurateur opening and operating twelve restaurants. He was a member of St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral and the Order of AHEPA and Alexander the Great, Greek Cultural Center. Athanasios will be remembered for his heartwarming smile that would light up a room, his sense of humor and willingness to help anyone. He lived life to its fullest and will sorely be missed by all who knew him
His funeral is Tuesday, October 7th from O’CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue, with a service at 10:00 a.m. in St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 102 Russell Street. Burial will follow in Hope Cemetery. Calling hours are Monday, October 6th from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral Building Fund, 102 Russell Street, Worcester, MA 01609.
