Obituary

OXFORD-William E. Hackett, 68, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Friday, October 3rd at St. Vincent Hospital.

Bill is survived by his three children, William Hackett of Spencer, Robert Hackett and his wife Lisa of Worcester and Carol Boulette Valastro of Millbury; three brothers, Richard S. Hackett and his wife Ann of Spencer, Charles L. Hackett, Jr. and his wife Claire of Spencer and Robert F. Hackett of Auburn; two sisters, Carol A. Lulu and her husband Joseph of Sutton and Dorothy M. Gosselin and her husband Norman of Spencer; 14 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Bill was born in Worcester the son of Charles L. and Evelyn (Case) Hackett. Bill worked at Norton Company and Montrose Wire Company. He enjoyed trips to Saratoga to watch the horses and playing bingo.

The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at St. Vincent Hospital ICU, for all their compassion and support in Bill’s final days, they were wonderful. At DaVita Dialysis, a special thanks to Dale, Kimberly, the “Walton Girl” and all the staff, for their determined effort in helping Bill get through his treatment, even if it required lots of singing and kisses. To the many drivers at Vital, it didn’t take them long to realize a smoking break for Bill was “mandatory”. Many thanks to Kim, Tina and the Staff at Sandalwood for their care, concern and love for Bill. They truly had Bill’s best interest at heart and fully understood his needs. Bill would like to give special thanks to his niece, Cindy, for all her “years” of love, care and concern in obtaining the best healthcare for him!

A visiting hour for Bill will be on Wednesday. October 8th from 9:30 until 10:30 am at CALLAHAN, FAY & CASWELL FUNERAL HOME, 61 Myrtle St., Worcester followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:00 am at St. Joseph’s Church, 189 Oxford St., Auburn. Burial will follow in St. John’s Cemetery, Worcester. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Bill’s name may be made to the Activities Fund c/o Sandalwood Center, 3 Pine St., Oxford, MA 01540.
