Obituary

Ouellet, Edward Joseph of Wellesley, Massachusetts, and Wolfeboro, New Hampshire, died at his home in Wolfeboro on October 1, 2014, at the age of 91. He was founder and president of Filter Sales & Service in Burlington, Massachusetts, a New England leader in liquid and air filtration.

The son of Frank and Ella Ouellet of Wellesley, he was the beloved husband of the late Pauline Allin Ouellet. He is survived by four children, Norma J. O’Reilly and her husband Thomas, Alan E. Ouellet and his wife Liz Becker, Jeannette DiBiase and her husband Frank, all of Wellesley; and Thomas E. Ouellet and his wife Maryanne of Sherborn; his brother, Frank L. Ouellet of Dover; his sister, Jeannette O’Rourke of Concord; 15 grandchildren; and 3 great grandchildren.

Born and raised in Wellesley, Mr. Ouellet graduated from Wellesley High School and was a naval veteran of World War II, having seen action at Iwo Jima and Okinawa. After returning home from his military service overseas, he courted and married the love of his life, Pauline Allin. They were married for 66 years until her passing two years ago.

Mr. Ouellet co-founded Filter Sales & Service in May of 1953. The firm was much more than a business enterprise for him and he was deeply loyal and committed to his employees and customers. He made many lifelong friends through his business relationships. As president, Mr. Ouellet belonged to many professional organizations throughout his business career and held life memberships to both AFE (Association for Facilities Engineers) and ASHRAE (American Society of Heating, Refrigeration, Air Conditioning Engineers).

As a young man, Mr. Ouellet vacationed with his family on Lake Winnepesaukee and this became a cherished tradition that he carried on with his own growing family. He and his wife honeymooned at the Lake and eventually made Wolfeboro their second home, spending many happy times with family and friends. Mr. Ouellet enjoyed an active sporting life with power boating, sailing, water skiing and swimming during the summer and skiing and ski mobiling in the winter. These were activities that he continued to relish in his final years. He and his sons traveled to Yellowstone National Park for a number of years to skimobile as well. He lived life with a passion, and it showed in his family life, work, and play.
