Carl-Evan O. Yancey, of Brockton, died tragically on Sunday, September 28, 2014 from injuries sustained in a hit and run accident. Carl-Evan was 31 years old and would have celebrated his 32nd birthday on Thursday, October 2. He was born in Cambridge and raised in Brockton, the devoted and beloved son of Darhl (Outlaw) Ellison and her husband Clarence “Pops” Ellison of Brockton, and Carl S. Yancey of Charlotte, NC.
A 2000 graduate of Brockton High School, Carl-Evan earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology from Bridgewater State University in 2012. He was employed as a Monitor Teacher Assistant at the Goddard School in Brockton. He recently began working as a Youth Advocate at the Transition House in Brockton while continuing to work at the westside Shaw’s Supermarket, a job he began at the age of sixteen.
A sports enthusiast, Carl-Evan coached youth sports including girls’ soccer and the Brockton Patriots Youth Football team. He was an avid Baltimore sports fan. Carl-Evan was well-known for his wit and humor. Shaw’s provided him the venue to hone his comedic skills and he often performed as a standup comic at local clubs.
Carl-Evan will be remembered as a “gentle giant” who was a very compassionate and giving young man with a heart of gold. He genuinely cared about his students and customers.
In addition to his parents, Carl-Evan is survived by his sisters Leigh Yancey and Lauren Yancey both of Brockton and a niece Symone Yancey-Carter of Brockton. He also leaves behind many aunts, uncles, and cousins and many, many good friends.
Visiting hours will be held at the Conley Funeral Home, 138 Belmont St. (Rte. 123), Brockton on Sunday October 5, 2014 from 1-4 and 6-8 pm. Funeral Services will be held at Mount Moriah Baptist Church, 24 Pleasant St., Brockton on Monday, October 6, at 10:00am. Burial will be at Melrose Cemetery.
