Obituary

Lucille (Almeida) DeMello, 79, of New Bedford passed away peacefully on Tuesday September 30, 2014 at Hathaway Manor Extended Care Facility surrounded by her family after a long illness. She was the wife of the late John DeMello.

Born in Dartmouth, the daughter of the late Joseph and Emily (Esteves) Almeida, she lived in Dartmouth for most of her life. She was a graduate of Dartmouth High School.

She was a communicant of St. Mary's Church, South Dartmouth.

Mrs. DeMello was formerly employed as a secretary at Dartmouth Middle School for 34 years until her retirement.

She was an avid Boston Red Sox fan and sports fan, and loved spending time with her family.

Survivors include two children, Luann Roseman and David DeMello and his wife Stacey, all of Dartmouth; her Goddaughter and niece, Valerie Almeida of New Bedford; her sisters-in-law, Alice Santos and her husband Armando of Dartmouth, and Cecelia Almeida of Naples, FL; two grandchildren, Tyler DeMello and Alyssa Roseman; two great-grandchildren, Mariana Camacho and Victor Camacho, Jr.; and several nieces and nephews.

She was the sister of the late New Bedford Fire Chief Manuel Almeida, Dartmouth Shellfish Warden Joseph Almeida, and Dartmouth Selectman James Almeida.

Her Funeral will be held on Monday at 9 AM from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford, followed by her Funeral Mass at St. Mary's Church, South Dartmouth at 10 AM. Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery. Visiting hours will be on Sunday from 2-6 PM. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the American Diabetes Association, P.O.
