Peter John LeTendre, 81, of New Bedford died Sunday Septmber 28, 2014 at Charlton Memorial Hospital after a long illness. He was the husband of Shirley J. (Nichols) LeTendre.
Born in New Bedford, the son of the late Ernest and Catherine (Chesnelewicz) LeTendre, he lived in New Bedford all of his life.
He was a communicant of St. Lawrence Church.
Mr. Letendre was formerly employed as a machinist at Revere Copper & Brass until his retirement.
He was a Past President of the Sippican Rod and Gun Club and was active in Truckers' Aid in this area. He served in the Army National Guard. He was an avid fisherman, hunter, boater, and outdoorsman.
He is survived by his wife; five daughters, Karen Sonne of Fairhaven, Catherine Perry of Assonet, Carole Kelley, Sharon Steliga, and Lisa LeTendre, all of New Bedford; nine grandchildren, Aaron LeTendre, Ryan Kelley, Allyson Sonne, Jenna Perry, Robyn Perry, Meaghan Purdy, Lucas Kelley, Jonathan Norton, and McKenzie Gregory; and two great-grandchildren, Cole and Caden LeTendre.
He was the father of the late Peter John LeTendre, Jr.
His Funeral will be held on Friday at 9 AM from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford, followed by his Funeral Mass at St. Lawrence Church at 10 AM.
