McEnroe, of North Easton, formerly of Brockton, November 30, 2004, Gertrude “Gert” R. (Marchand) McEnroe, 89 years. Loving wife of the late Clyde F. McEnroe Sr. Devoted mother of Janice A. White of Plymouth, Patricia M. McLellan of Campton, N.H., Clyde F. “Fred” McEnroe, Jr. of Mashpee, Diane M. Merullo of Jensen Beach, FL, Jean F. Churchill of North Easton and James J. McEnroe of Rochester. Also survived by eleven grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren: Frederick McEnroe and his daughter Rachel of Mashpee; Brian McEnroe and his daughter Amanda and son Joshua of Mashpee; Shaun, Scott, Michael, and Leslie McEnroe of Plymouth; Michael McLellan and his sons Matthew and Camden of Westport; Richard McLellan of Washington, DC; Deborah Hicks and her daughters Lindsay and Danielle and her son Kevin of Ocala, FL.; Linda Kirylo and her son Dylan of Ocala, FL., Stephanie Kelley and her daughters, Erica, Mikaela, and Shannon of Lititz, PA.

Funeral from the J. Frank Conley Funeral Home, 138 Belmont Street (Rte 123) Brockton, Saturday at 8am. Funeral Mass in Our Lady of Lourdes Church at 9am. Burial in Holy Family Cemetery, Rockland. Obituary of the late Gertrude Rita (Marchand) McEnroe
D.O.B. 11-16-1915 to D.O.D. 11-30-2004

Gertrude Rita (Marchand) McEnroe age 89 died peacefully Tuesday evening at the Oak Hill Nursing Home in Middleboro, where she resided for the past five years. She was the wife of the late Clyde F. McEnroe, Sr. Accountant for the B. F. Goodrich Company of Brockton, who died in 1989.

Born in Stoughton, daughter of the late Frank Henry and Fannie Isabelle (Taylor) Marchand, the ninth of seventeen children, she lived in Brockton most of her life and in North Easton for a period of time. Proud of her catholic heritage she was a communicant of Saint Margaret’s Church.

Mrs. McEnroe was retired from the Foxboro Company in East Bridgewater and the Heritage Aluminum Windows Company of North Easton. She overcame polio as a youngster (being one of the first polio patients treated on the actual Floating Hospital of Boston) and became an avid athlete. She enjoyed swimming and diving. Gertrude was a former lifeguard at the East-Side swimming pool in Brockton and Nantasket Beach where she saved several lives. She was known for her fishing skills (several years being the first person to catch a fish on opening fishing season at D.W. Fields Park) and use to swim across the Cape Cod Canal while her brother Paul rowed beside her. An avid walker all her life, known to many in the Brockton and Easton area as the sharp dresser and lady in the white hat,seen walking five miles every day. Some of her other hobbies included cooking, crocheting, quilting and reading.

She is the mother of Janice A. White of Plymouth, Patricia M. McLellan of Campton, N.H., Clyde F. “Fred” McEnroe, Jr. of Mashpee, and Diane M. Merullo of Jensen Beach, FL, Jean F. Churchill of North Easton and James J. McEnroe of Rochester. Grandmother of eleven grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren: Frederick McEnroe and his daughter Rachel of Mashpee; Brian McEnroe and his daughter Amanda and son Joshua of Mashpee; Shaun, Scott, Michael, and Leslie McEnroe of Plymouth; Michael McLellan and his sons Matthew and Camden of Westport; Richard McLellan of Washington, DC; Deborah Hicks and her daughters Lindsay and Danielle and her son Kevin of Ocala, FL.; Linda Kirylo and her son Dylan of Ocala, FL., Stephanie Kelley and her daughters, Erica, Mikaela, and Shannon of Lititz, PA.
Sister of Paul Marchand of Middleboro, Edna Mason of California, and Geraldine Porter of North Easton and the late Delia H. Bienvenue, Inez I. Rosenberg, Sylvia H. MacFarlane, Charles F. Marchand, Mildred E. Marchand, Eva M. Roy, Harold L., Mildred E., Charles F., Francis J., Donald J., Gerald, Mary, Frank, and Henry Marchand. She also leaves many nieces and nephews
