NORTH BERWICK, ME-Clara L. (Oatley) Mellen, 79 of 47 Elm Street formerly of Orlando Street, Worcester, died Wednesday, March 27th in Varney Crossing Nursing Care Facility after a long illness. Her husband of 50 years, Clifford A. Mellen died in 1997. She leaves 3 daughters, Charlotte Salata of North Berwick, ME, Carol Barbee Lincoln of Garner, NC and Cathleen Iankealey of Jefferson; 6 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren and several nephews and nieces. A brother, George Oatley and a sister, Charlotte Murphy predeceased her.
She was born in Economy, Nova Scotia, the daughter of Frank and Lillian (Converse) Oatley and lived in Worcester for 50 years before moving to Maine. She was a graduate of Bucknell University and the Katherine Gibbs School. Mrs. Mellen was employed as head bookkeeper at the law firm of Bowditch and Dewey for many years before retiring.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 30th at 2:00 PM in The Bible Speaks Chapel, 224 Main Street, South Berwick, ME. There are no calling hours. O’Connor Brothers Funeral Home, 592 Park Avenue Worcester is directing arrangements.
