Obituary

SPRINGFIELD – Edna M. (Elisee) Ogulewicz, 87, of the East Springfield section of Springfield, was Called Safely Home on Thursday, September 25, 2014. She passed into Eternal Life at Mercy Medical Center in Springfield surrounded by all the memories she loved and cherished. She was born in Holyoke on Feburary 18, 1927, a beloved daughter of the late Armand and Selina (Fournier) Elisee. She was raised in South Hadley, graduated from Woodlawn Elementary School in South Hadley, and South Hadley High School in 1945. Following high school, she married her sweetheart, Mitch, and they moved to Cleveland Street in the Hungry Hill section of Springfield where they made their home. In 1972, they moved to East Springfield. Edna was employed for 27 years as a supervisor in the accounts receivable department for the former John H. Breck Company, which later became the American Cyanmid Company. Following her retirement, she worked part-time for the Samuel Bowles Elementary School in East Springfield. She was a die hard Boston Red Sox fan and was always ready to watch a good game. Active in her Catholic faith, Edna was a longtime communicant of the former Saint Mary Church in East Springfield, now Mary, Mother of Hope Church. She was a member of the Saint Mary Women’s Guild and served on the Parish Council. She was a former vice-chair of the Springfield Democratic Committee and the Ward 2 Democratic Committee. She leaves her beloved husband and soul mate, Mitchell J. Ogulewicz, Sr. They were married on September 22, 1945 at Saint Theresa of Lisieux Church in South Hadley and just celebrated their 69th wedding anniversary. Besides her husband, she leaves her loving son and daughter-in-law, former Springfield City Councilor Mitch Ogulewicz, Jr. and his wife, Cynthia, of Travelers Rest, SC; her loving daughter, Victoria A. Pitts of East Longmeadow; her four cherished grandchildren, Kristen Falcone and her husband, Daniel, Joshua Ogulewicz and his wife, Shannon, Thomas Pitts, Jr. and his wife, Karen, and Michelle LaPatin and her husband, Adam; her eight cherished great-grandchildren, Payton Falcone, Kacie Pitts, Jenna Pitts, Tia Nehmer, Stephen Bognar, Dylan Bognar, Ashley LaPatin and Cameron LaPatin; her dear brothers-in law, Chester Ogulewicz and Charles Ogulewicz and his wife, Frances, all of Easthampton; her dear sister-in-law, Theresa Dubovic of Chicopee; and her many dear nephews, nieces, cousins and extended members of the Ogulewicz and Elisee families. Besides her parents, she was also predeceased by her loving brother, William Elisee; and her loving sisters, Anita Knapp and Eva Boudreaux. Her relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Wednesday, October 1, 2014 at 10 a.m. in Mary, Mother of Hope Church, 840 Page Boulevard, East Springfield, MA 01104. Her burial will follow the Mass at Saint Stanislaus Bishop and Martyr Cemetery, Mayher Street, Easthampton, MA 01027. There are no visiting hours at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Springfield Chapels, (413-737-1177), 7 Chapin Terrace, Springfield, MA 01107. Her family has requested that memorial donations be made in her memory to Mary, Mother of Hope Church, 840 Page Boulevard, Springfield, MA 01104 or to the Activity Fund at Wingate at East Longmeadow, 32 Chestnut Street, East Longmeadow, MA 01028.
