Obituary

SPRINGFIELD – Louise M. “Lou” (Joseph) Kenney, 85, of the Hungry Hill section of Springfield, was Called Safely Home on Thursday, September 25, 2014. She passed into Eternal Life peacefully and serenely at Wingate at East Longmeadow surrounded by the care and comfort of her loving family and her wonderful caregivers. She was born in Springfield on May 21, 1929, one of 11 loving children of the late Michael Joseph and Rose (Arooth) Joseph. She was raised in Springfield, graduated from the High School of Commerce and was a lifelong resident of the Hungry Hill section of Springfield. Lou was employed at American International College, Our Lady of Hope Elementary School and Springfield College. She truly loved her work and made many lasting lifelong friends. Active in her Catholic faith, Lou was a communicant of the former Our Lady of Hope Church in Springfield where she was a member of the Our Lady of Hope Women’s Guild. She volunteered for many church events and also at Our Lady of Hope School where she was involved in the Confraternity of Christian Doctrine Program. Following the closing of her beloved church, Lou became a communicant of Mary, Mother of Hope Church in East Springfield. Lou adored her family and many friends. She had a beautiful smile, a kind soft voice and was always ready to assist anyone with a helping hand or a kind word. Lou leaves her beloved husband whom she adored, Edward D. “Rocky” Kenney. They were married on May 21, 1961 at Saint Anthony Maronite Catholic Church in Springfield and were blessed with over 53 years of happiness together. Besides her husband, she leaves her loving sons and daughters-in-law, Edward D. Kenney, Jr. and his wife, Alisa, of Westerly, RI, and Frank J. Kenney and his wife, Kim, of Springfield; her four cherished grandchildren whom she adored, Nicholas and Luke Kenney, and Allyssa and Matthew Kenney; her beautiful step-daughters and their children, Judy Capeless of Oakland, ME and Donna Rossini and her husband, Ronald, of Springfield; her loving brother who was always there for her, Victor M. Joseph of Agawam; and her many cherished nephews, nieces, cousins and extended members of the Kenney and Joseph families. Lou was predeceased by her nine loving brothers and sisters, Edward Joseph, Frank M. Joseph, Joseph M. Joseph, Fred Joseph, Victoria Winard, Freda McCarthy, Athena Dulligan, Mary Grunander and Sayde Johnson; and her loving step-son-in-law, William Capeless. Her funeral will be held on Tuesday morning, September 30, 2014, beginning at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Springfield Chapels, (413-737-1177), 7 Chapin Terrace, Springfield, MA 01107, (funeral home will open at 8:30 a.m.) followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Mary, Mother of Hope Church, 840 Page Boulevard, East Springfield, MA 01104. Her burial will follow the Mass at Saint Michael Cemetery, 1601 State Street, Springfield, MA 01109. Her family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday, September 29, 2014 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Her family has requested that memorial donations be made in her memory to Saint Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 506 Saint Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
