Antonio D. “Tony” Fermano passed away at his home surrounded by his loving family on September 24, 2014. He was 92 years old.
Tony was a lifelong resident of Malden. He was a United States Air Force Veteran in World War II and the Korean Conflict. He received the Purple Heart Recipient and the Distinguished Flying Cross among other metals. Tony flew 54 misions during the war. He was a Provost Marshall and received the National Korean Police Gold Metal in 1952. Tony was a graduate of the New England School of Law. He passed the bar exam in 1959 and then worked as an attorney. Tony was a Police officer for over 30 years and retired as the Chief of Police for the Malden Police Department.
Tony was the devoted husband of 49 years to the late Eleanor (Bernardini) Fermano. He was the son of the late Vincenzo and Soledea (DiCarlo) Fermano. Tony was the beloved father of Doreen Sica and her husband Michael of Londonderry, NH, Lydia Nelson and her husband Paul of Carver, and Lisa Evers and her husband Henry of Londonderry, NH. He was the brother of the late Pietro Firmani, and Joseph and Domenic Fermano. Tony was the cherished grandfather to 8 grandchildren, and 7 great grandchildren. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, and family mmembers.
The funeral will be held from the A. J. Spadafora Funeral Home 865 Main Street, Malden on Monday Sept. 29th at 9:00a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in Sacred Hearts Church 297 Main Street, Malden at 10:00a.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours are Sunday Sept. 28th from 3-7p.m. Interment will be in St. Michael Cemetery, Roslindale.
