Laconia-----Clara K. Turner, 91, of 21 Ledges Dr., Taylor Community, and formerly of 44 Winnicoash Street, died on Tuesday, September 23, 2014 at Ledgeview, Taylor Community, Laconia.
Mrs. Turner was born December 31, 1922 in Marlborough, N.H., the daughter of the late Charles and Helen (Rugg) Knight. She graduated from Marlborough High School in 1940, Valedictorian of her class of 18 students. She went on to graduate from the University of New Hampshire in 1944 with a degree in German, and was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa. She served as her alumni Class Secretary until just recently.
She resided in Concord, N.H. for several years before moving to Laconia in 1968. She was employed as a legal assistant for McKean, Mattson and Latici, P.A. of Gilford, for almost 30 years.
Mrs. Turner was an active member of the Laconia Congregational Church since 1968, serving on multiple committees and ministries. She also served for many years on the Board of Trustees, serving as Vice Chairman in 1974 and Chairman in 1975. She continued on the Board of Trustees until 1981. She also served as the Church’s Moderator as well as its Treasurer during the mid 1980’s. Mrs. Turner also served on the Board of the Lakes Region Day Care Center and the Lakes Region United Way.
Survivors include a son, Robert H. Turner and his wife Sue of Bryant Pond, Maine and Park City Utah; two daughters, Dr. Martha J. Turner and her husband Dr. Alan Lord of San Juan, Puerto Rico; and Ruth T. McLaughlin and her husband Hayden of Gilford. Five grandchildren: Daniel McLaughlin of Gulfport, Mississippi; Jessie Turner currently studying in Fairbanks, Alaska; Abby Turner studying in Rabat, Morocco; Grace McLaughlin studying in Burlington, Vermont; and Catherine McLaughlin studying at the Holderness School. She is also survived by a sister Helen K. Normandin of Laconia. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Turner was predeceased by her husband of 54 years, Robert H. Turner, in 2005.
There will be no calling hours.
A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, September 28, 2014 at 4PM at the Laconia Congregational Church, 69 Pleasant Street, Laconia, N.H. Rev. Dr. Warren H. Bouton, Pastor of the church, will officiate.
