Obituary

Joseph C. Lima, 92, of Salem, NH and Clearwater, FL passed away Wed., Sept. 24th at his home surrounded by those that loved him.

Born in St. Michael, Azores on August 6, 1922, he was the son of Maria (Correiro) and Manuel Lima. Joseph came to the United States at a young age. He graduated from Lawrence High School, Class of 1940. He enlisted in the US Navy on October 14, 1942 and saw action in the Pacific aboard ammunition export U.S.S. Mauna Loa, AE8 later transferring to Destroyer Escort, U.S.S. Holton, DE703 where he saw action in the North Atlantic Convoys and in the Pacific at the Philippines and Okinawa. He was discharged December 8, 1945.

He graduated from Wentworth Institute of Technology, Class of 1949. He was employed from 1950 to 1982 by Lawrence Gas and Electric which became Bay State Gas. Joseph’s special interest was music. At age 12, he took up the accordion and continued playing it throughout his lifetime and played with the Italian Serenaders of Haverhill for 20 years. He loved to travel. Joseph was a loving, wonderful man. He will be missed by all who knew him.

Joseph was predeceased by his wife Amelia and son George as well as his siblings.

He is survived by his loving companion Maria Vogel and her children Kathleen LaGrasse, Janis Sambataro, Joseph Pasters and William Pasters as well as his nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to give many thanks for the wonderful care provided by the staff of Merrimack Valley Hospice.

Calling hours will be Friday, Sept. 26th from 4:00 – 8:00 PM at Douglas & Johnson Funeral Home, 214 Main St., Salem, NH. The funeral service will be Saturday at 9:00 AM at Douglas & Johnson Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery.
