Obituary

Edwin J. Knight, Jr., 94, of West Greenville Road, Glocester, died Tuesday, September 23, 2014 peacefully in his sleep. He was the husband of the late Lillian D. (Bowers) Knight. He was a son of the late Edwin J. Knight Sr. and the late Irene G. (Provost) Knight.
Ed was a proud Army Veteran, serving in WWII. He served in England, Germany, France and Belgium. He loved to share stories of driving around Europe during his time in the service.
Ed was well known around town, he enjoyed meeting the locals for coffee at the corner store every morning. He loved driving and taking long day trips. He taught all his Grandchildren including Heather and Tracy how to drive the farm equipment by the age of 12.
Ed will be remembered for many things including his "green thumb". He could make anything grow. He was a farmer all his life, being born on Knight Farm. Many locals recall fond memories of picking apples with Ed during the Fall harvest.
Ed moved his family to California in 1952 and returned three years later when his Grandfather needed caring for. At that time he shared the responsibilities of caring for the orchard with his Dad.
He was well known for his witty sense of humor and his infectious smile. Ed will be sadly missed by his dog, Sam, his entire family and the Glocester community. It was Ed's wish to remain in his farm house for his entire natural life and with the devotion and dedication of his daughter Janet, this was able to happen.

He is survived by his daughters: Sylvia Harrington and her husband, Vincent, of North Kingstown and Janet Angell of Glocester. He was the grandfather of six: Jay Spencer and his wife, Laurie of West Warwick, Michael Harrington of Chepachet, Christopher Harrington and his wife, Deborah of Attleboro, MA, Eric Spencer of East Greenwich, Heather (Angell) Paulo and her husband Bill of Seekonk, MA and Tracy(Spencer) Faherty of Lowell, MA and great grandfather of seven: Alyssa and Erica Spencer, Jake and Joshua Spencer, Lauren Paulo, Hayley Harrington, Liliana Faherty, and Seth and Seran Harrington and a nephew Robert W. Knight Jr. and his wife, Deborah of Brownsfield, ME. He was the grandfather of the late Lisa Lynn Spencer and Eddie Angell, Father in law of the late Ed Angell and brother of the late Robert Knight.
His funeral service will be held Friday at Noon in the ANDERSON-WINFIELD Funeral Home, Route 44 at Greenville Common, Greenville. Visitation Friday 11am-12 Noon. Burial with Military Honors will follow in RI Veterans Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations in his memory may be made to Harmony Fire Department, PO Box 360, Harmony, RI 02829
