Obituary

Augusta, GA - Anna Maxwell Waller died at home on September 24, 2014 with her three daughters by her side.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, September 26, 2014 at the Church of the Good Shepherd with Rev. Robert D. Fain officiating.

Anna was born in Augusta on December 12, 1927 to Regnald and Lollie Maxwell and graduated from Tubman High School; St. Catherine's School, Richmond, VA; and the University of Alabama. In 1952, she married fellow Augustan Samuel Carpenter Waller. Anna was devoted to Sam and their three daughters and was an enthusiastic supporter of all their endeavors. Active in a variety of community and charitable organizations over the years, she also enjoyed her stint in the business world with The Eye of the Needle, a needlepoint shop she opened in the Partridge Inn. She was a faithful member of the Church of the Good Shepherd where she served in a variety of roles, including the first female member of a vestry in the Episcopal Diocese of Georgia. She was also
an early and loyal supporter of the Episcopal Convent of St. Helena. Anna was a voracious reader, a world traveler, and loved gardening, cooking, and playing
golf with her friends and family. Sam's premature death in 1983 left a tremendous void in her life but she carried on with her trademark smile, generous spirit, quick wit. She will be greatly missed.

Anna is survived by her three daughters: Anna Robbins (Gwin), Memphis; Laura Cullen (Joe), Atlanta; and, Amelia Baker (Tom), Atlanta - and by six grandchildren: Gibbs Cullen, Joe Cullen, Anna Baker, Amelia Baker, Clay Baker and Sam Baker. She was preceded in death by her brother, Regnald Maxwell, Jr. The family thanks her faithful caregivers.

In lieu of flowers the family has asked for donations to be made to the Church of the Good Shepherd, 2230 Walton Way, Augusta, GA, 30904.
