Obituary

In loving memory of Michael A. Massi, born and raised in Lawrence. He attended Lawrence High School and later joined the U.S. Army in 1943. Serving in Italy, France and finally Germany, Michael was part of the infamous 88th division Blue Devils of Italy. Highly decorated during WW II, Michael received 4 Bronze Stars, the Combat Infantryman Badge, the American Theater Service Medal, and the European African Middle Eastern Service Medal, the AR 600-68 WW II Victory Campaign Medal, 2 Overseas Service Bars, and a Good Conduct Medal.

Returning home, he began running Fallon’s Diner for some 40 years. Serving and cooking for the public was his passion. During the many years at the Diner, he sent thousands of kids to camp and served everyone from city workers, to famous politicians. His charitable work for the city of Lawrence extended through 4 decades.

After leaving Fallons in the early 1980’s, he worked for Phillip’s Academy until his retirement in his mid-70’s. During his retirement, he became a member of the Dewey Club in Methuen, where he had many friends. He enjoyed horse racing, sports, and entertainment.

Michael is survived by his loving wife, Eleanor, and his two sons, Michael Massi of Mesquite, NV and Gary Massi of Lawrence. He also has many nieces and nephews. Michael was the last of a family of 10 brothers and sisters, Anthony Massi, Angelo Massi, Mary McNabb, Frederick Massi, Louis Massi, James Massi, Richard Massi, Ida Testa, and Eva DeAngelis. His immigrant parents include Domenica Massi, born in Santa Maria, Italy and Pasquale, born in Matzapia, Italy.
Beloved by many, his years growing up in the Depression of the 20’s and his WW II service is a true statement of an American hero. His service to others and his country is truly a blessing to all he touched in his life. He will be missed but his spirit will live on. God Bless you, Michael, from your loving family.
