Obituary

GLOUCESTER: Marcia Ann (Martin) Hughes, 76, died Thursday, September 18, 2014 at the home of her daughter, Donna in North Berwick, Maine. She was the beloved wife of the late Robert H. Hughes who died in 1984.
Born in Gloucester on December 23, 1937, she was the daughter of the late James Russell Martin and Esther Elvira (Alphen) Martin. She was a lifelong resident of Gloucester and graduate of the Gloucester High School class of 1955.
She grew up on Cherry Street and worked at the Tucker Farm. Also in her earlier years, she was an operator for New England Telephone. As a receptionist, she was employed by the former Omni Wave Electronics and later at the Cape Ann Medical Center for many years until her retirement.
Marcia was a lifelong member of the Trinity Congregational Church. She was a very caring and giving person. She was also known to be a fastidious homemaker who loved music and playing cribbage. Most recently she became an avid clam digger and delighted in sharing clam chowder and stuffed clams with family and friends. She enjoyed her Wednesday lunches with friends at the Blue Marlin and her yearly visits to Fort Myers, Florida to visit her brother and sister-in-law.
She is survived by her daughter, the Rev. Donna Lee Muise of North Berwick, ME; two sons, Stephen E. Muise and his wife, Jessica and Robert E. Muise all of Gloucester; three grandchildren, Kaylee Muise and Kaitlyn Muise both of Brentwood, NH and Kody J. Muise of Gloucester; whom she helped raise, step-grandson, Tyler Clardy of Gloucester; two sisters, Eva M. Perkins of Beverly and Andrea O’Maley of Rowley; two brothers, Charles R. Martin of Danvers and James L. Martin and his wife, Maryann of Ft. Myers, FL; stepchildren, Robert H. Hughes, Jr., Wayne P. Hughes and Sally Hughes Quimby, as well as many nieces, nephews and dear friends. She was also predeceased by her niece, Andrea “Sam” Martin; nephew, James R. “Rusty” Martin, II and a stepson, Thomas B. Hughes.
Her funeral service will be held on Tuesday in the Trinity Congregational Church, Middle St., Gloucester at 10 a.m. Visiting hours will be held on Monday in the Pike-Grondin Funeral Home, 61 Middle St., Gloucester from 6 – 8 p.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Gloucester. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to Amy’s Treat, P. O.
