Obituary

Victor J. Giammalvo, 91, of Wareham died September 18, 2014 at Sippican Healthcare Center.
He was the husband of Dolores M. (Rodrigues) Giammalvo.
Born in New Bedford, the son of the late Salvador and Mary (Salvadore) Giammalvo, he lived in Wareham for the last 30 years. He was a communicant of St. Patrick's Church in Wareham.
He was formerly employed as a salesman for Gusti's Bakery for many years until his retirement.
Mr. Giammalvo was an officer and member of the Italian Literary Society. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II aboard the U.S.S. Montpelier, and was a recipient of the Asiatic-Pacific Theater Campaign ribbon with 9 stars, the Philippine Liberation medal with 1 star and the World War II Victory medal.

He enjoyed volunteering at Damien's Food Pantry and cooking spaghetti dinners for fundraisers.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Lawrence Giammalvo and his wife Ann of Wareham; 2 daughters, Sandra Taber and her husband Dana and Paula Giammalvo, all of New Bedford; a sister, Juliette Desnoyers and her husband Wilfred of Mattapoisett; 3 grandchildren, Trisha Taber, Carl Giammalvo and Scott Giammalvo; 8 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
His Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Friday, September 26th at 10 AM in Holy Name of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, New Bedford.
