Obituary

Josephine E. “Jo” (Cicone) DeGirolamo, age 96, formerly of Brockton, died peacefully at the Life Care Center of West Bridgewater, surrounded by her "girls" and her family, on September 16, 2014. She was married to the love of her life, the late Bernard E DeGirolamo for almost 50 years. Born and raised in Brockton, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Innocensa (Mantello) Cicone. Jo was a graduate of Brockton High School, class of 1936, and attended each and every class reunion including the 72nd and final reunion held in 2008. For many years she had been employed in the garment industry as an inspector and shop steward. She had been a resident of Matfield Woods, West Bridgewater since 1991 before entering the Life Care Center. Jo was a superb baker and enjoyed cooking for her family and friends; well known for "grandma de's cookies". No matter how many times she shared her recipes they never quite tasted the same as when she made them. At 70 years old, Jo joined her sister, Elena, as a member of a bowling league. She also enjoyed bingo, both at Matfield Woods and at Life Care Center. Jo also enjoyed many Saturday nights, dancing with her husband Benny and friends.
Jo is survived by two daughters Frances Johnson and her husband Philip and Bernardine “Bunnie” Quill all of Brockton; four grandchildren Marc Johnson and his wife Rebecca, Vincent Quill III and his wife Julie, Keri Clark and her husband Jason and Elizabeth Cerullo and her husband Steven; twelve great grandchildren, Leah, Matthew and Kyle Johnson; Victoria, Vincent IV, Jennah and Robert Quill; Ethan and Emmi Clark; and Andrew, Jonathan and Kathryn Cerullo; a sister Elena Niccoli of Brockton and many nieces and nephews, especially those who were the “love of her life”. Jo was the sister of the late Mary Oriola and her late brothers Eugene, Frank, Vincent, Anthony “Tony” Cicone.
