Janet O. (Smith) Jones, 86, of Medway passed peacefully into the Lord’s presence on Tuesday, September 16, 2014 at the Medway Country Manor. She was the beloved wife of Harold R. Jones since 1950.
Born in Medway on May 4, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Carl A. Smith and Olivia L. (Gilley) Smith Ash.
Mrs. Jones was a lifelong resident of Medway and graduated from Medway High School, salutatorian of her class. She earned a Bachelor’s Degree from Boston University.
She was a longtime member and minister of music at Medway Village Church for over 50 years.
Mrs. Jones was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She was an avid birdwatcher, enjoyed gardening, furniture restoration, watching the Red Sox and was a stain glass artist.
Besides her husband, she is survived by two daughters Nancy Preis and her husband Douglas of Cambridge and Natalie Butler and her husband George of South Boston, a son Brian Jones and his wife Mai of Las Vegas, NV and a daughter-in-law Linda Jones of Upton. She was the mother of the late David Jones.
She is also survived by ten grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours on Saturday, September 20 in the Ginley Crowley Funeral Home, 3 Barber St. in Medway (www.ginleyfuneralhomes.com) from 9 - 10:30 a.m. followed by a memorial service at the Medway Village Church, 170 Village St., Medway at 11 a.m.
Burial will take place privately at a later date.
